About
I am a Research Associate in Dr George Carman’s lab and I am currently working on the regulation of lipid metabolism in the model yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae using molecular genetic and biochemical approaches. In particular, I am studying the regulation of PAH1-encoded phosphatidic acid phosphatase and DGK1-encoded diacylglycerol kinase, two enzymes that are key regulators of lipid metabolism in yeast. My previous work was on the biotechnology of microbial lipids, named Single Cell Oils, which are of great interest for biofuel and pharmaceutical companies. In my research, I employed oleaginous molds and yeasts as the producing organisms, in batch and continuous systems. In particular, I looked at the development of lipid production systems that utilize wastes as feedstock with emphasis to raw glycerol which is the major by-product of the biodiesel industry.
